Allocation of Wavelength Converters in All-Optical WDM Networks with Alternate Routing
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper proposes a wavelength converter placement method such that the same network will yield low connection blocking probability even when the alternate routing algorithm is replaced by a different one. Since the objective of the alternate routing algorithms used in the networks is to minimize blocking probability, the optimal traffic pattern which minimize the blocked traffic intensity is utilized for finding the locations of wavelength converters. The key idea is to place the wavelength converters at the nodes where they are needed most. Simulations have been performed to study the performance of the proposed wavelength converter placement method. The simulation results have shown that the proposed placement method yields smaller connection blocking probability than the two converter placement methods when the networks employ the hop count based fixedalternate routing or least-loaded routing.

Adaptive alternate routing in WDM networks and its performance tradeoffs in the presence of wavelength converters
Routing in wavelength-routed all-optical WDM networks has received much attention in the past decade for which fixed and dynamic routing methods have been proposed. Taking into account the observation that wavelength-routed all-optical WDM networks are similar to circuit-switched voice networks, except with regard to wavelength conversion, we propose an adaptive alternate routing (AAR) scheme f...
متن کاملA Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks
Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...
متن کاملWavelength Routing in All-optical Tree Networks: A Survey
We study the problem of allocating optical bandwidth to sets of communication requests in all{optical networks that utilize Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM). WDM technology establishes communication between pairs of network nodes by establishing transmitter{receiver paths and assigning wavelengths to each path so that no two paths going through the same ber link use the same wavelength. O...
متن کاملRouting, wavelength assignment, and spectrum allocation algorithms in transparent flexible optical WDM networks
Current fixed grid wavelength routed networks are limited in terms of spectral efficiency due to the rigid nature of wavelength assignment. We propose the Flexible Optical WDM (FWDM) network architecture for flexible grid optical networks in which the constraint on fixed spectrum allocation to channels is removed and network resources can be dynamically provisioned with an automated control pla...
متن کاملMulticasts on WDM All-Optical Butterfly Networks
On the wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks, when the number of wavelengths for realizing a set R of routing requests is beyond the number of wavelengths supported by an optical link, multiple rounds of routing for R are required. R = {(u, v)} is a set of multicasts if each source u sends a message to at least one destination v and each destination v receives a message from e...
